Programme Note
Moto Perpetuo was performed at the Tanglewood Music Festival as part of the Tanglewood Music Center (TMC) composition fellowship
Moto Perpetuo takes inspiration from the masterpieces of the classical piano repertoire, in particular Tombeau de Couperin by Ravel, whose Toccata informed me for its technical brilliance and textural filigree. It also references the jazz idiom in the middle of the piece, with the walking bass of the plucked cello, the piano acting as a syncopated hi-hat, and the clarinet drunkenly letting out a flamboyant solo.
