Artist Biography

Joseph (Sehyeok) Park is a pianist-composer currently based in Toronto, Canada. His music takes on his various personal influences as a session pianist, concert pianist, and childhood exposure to an abundance of the French classical tradition. His music seeks to converge these diverse influences to create a unique sound world that reconciles the old and the new.

In addition to his most recent 2026 Tanglewood Music Center fellowship, Park has also been recognized as a fellow at notable festivals and institutions such as the Aspen Music Festival, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Norfolk New Music Festival at Yale School of Music.

Park’s music has been commissioned and performed by ensembles such as Orkest de Ereprijs, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra, Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Unheard-of Ensemble, Brevard Music Centre Orchestra, AMF contemporary music ensemble, Standing Wave ensemble, and various others. He has also worked with notable composers such as Christopher Theofanidis, Stephen Hartke, Martin Bresnick, David Dzubay, and Reiko Fueting. 

He has further garnered recognition from organizations like the Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), winning the student composer award and the additional Carlos Surinach Prize. 

He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in composition from the University of Toronto, studying composition under Norbert Palej, Christos Hatzis, and Abigail Richardson-Schulte, and piano under Younggun Kim.
