Programme Note

Anamorphosis: a distortion of image or projection which appears normal when viewed from a particular point or with a suitable mirror or lens.

The title for each movement is evocative of auditory and psychological transformation of sound and information.

I. Prelude: Refract - a motivic fragment is presented and shrouded in a crystalline texture, only to give way to a singular melodic fragment akin to a light refraction

II. Gigue: Distort - a play on sound and the genre of the gigue, or jig

III. Air: Reverberation - an aria of echoing voices that overlap each other

IV. Scherzino: Schizophonia - schizophonia, a term coined by R. Murray Schaefer, is a separation of sound from its original source through electroacoustic recording and reproduction.

V. Lied: Confabulation - To confabulate is to unconsciously fill the gaps in your memory with fabricated or distorted information. The title is a word play on the German lieder.

VI. Finale: Collide - Combines the musical elements from all the previous movements
